Evens Out

I'm beat.  Physically.  Emotionally.  Spent.  Here's my day in a nutshell: participate in Megan and Keely's challenge (cropped over long) with my orange tunic under my leather vest, worked, took Kaden to therapy, took Kaden to his parent teacher conference, took Conner to his parent teacher conference, was a bad mom and swung by McD's, came home, fed kids, bathed kids, picked up after kids, did laundry, did dishes, packed lunches, premade coffee, saw Pat for about two seconds and now I'm blogging.  So, I'm gonna call it an early night.  It's an early night.

Today marks the first day of Megan and Keely's Fashion Challenge--Layering Up.  I have been looking forward to this challenge for a week or two buuuuuuuuuuut . . .

I got this skirt over the weekend and it is everything I have been longing for in a mullet skirt.  It was a great price, a light and fun material and a great color.  Since today's challenge was something I have done a bajillion times already (long sleeved under short sleeved) and since I have participated in every other challenge since I found out about it, I didn't feel too bad doing my own thing today.

I know, I know.  I'm supposed to be on a shopping ban until the wedding.  I know.  And here I am sporting two new items today.  This amazing skirt is one.  My cute hat is the other.

Here's the thing, though.  I've been really good.  I have saved plenty of money by quitting smoking (see my left sidebar) over a month ago.  And, I have set out a budget for wedding stuff.  I planned on spending $100 on each of my bridesmaid dresses.  My brother's girlfriend's dress was only $40.  So I spent $60 on me.  Ok, so I was caught in a weak moment.  Sue me.

For a Monday, I have to say, not too shabby.  The weather was unseasonably gorgeous, minus the wind.  But, at least the breeze was relatively warm and made my skirt wave in the wind.  Always a plus.

People, we do have something of great importance to discuss.  One week from today, I will be thirty.  I am either truly unaffected by this fact or in complete denial.  I don't think I really care about turning thirty.  I know I should be.  I know that most people freak, at least just a wee bit, when they turn thirty.  Me?  Nothing.

And I mean, like, not in any fashion.  Patrick is all intent on me doing something big for my birthday.  "But baaaaaaabe," he whines, "it's your THIRTIEEEEEEEEETH!"  Nothing really sounds appealing to me in the realm of a party.

And on that note, I think the other reason I'm not spazing out on it is because I have three kids.  My oldest is a tween.  I'm pretty sure by all accounts, I am mentally already well in my forties.

Not only that, but I think I'm actually ok with thirty.  Twenties are just kind of . . . done for me.  I'm really not afraid of turning the page on that decade.  Or maybe that's just my denial talking.  Maybe we will reserve this conversation for another week.  Mmmkaypumpkins?

You guys.  It was windy as a mother today.  My bangs look like I hairsprayed them all crazy.  I assure you I did not.  But all the pictures make me look like my hair should be in a 1990's Glamour Shots promo.

Yesterday I spent a day with the girls, aka three of my four bridesmaids: my sister Sammie, my cousin (who might as well be my sister as she lived with us a good part of high school) Tina and my brother's girlfriend Ginestra.  Pat's sister is my other bridesmaid (well, I have two more, but they are male), but she was at work.

We were on the hunt for bridesmaid dresses.  I am having each of my female bridesmaids pick out their own dress in a specific shade.  I feel it maintains their individuality while keeping a sense of unity.  At any rate, we did a lot of shopping.

Some of the shopping was wedding related.  We found a dress for Ginestra, Sammie already got hers and we found the perfect shoes for all my girls.  So, yes, in this respect we kept our game faces on.

In another realm, however, you have four mothers who rarely get girl time anymore, credit cards, sales and time to kill.  So, some of our shopping eyes did wander a bit . . .

Case in point: these amazing gold metallic jeans.  I have been eyeing these all over the place on blogs and wanted a pair soooo bad.  But I couldn't get over the $80 price tag.  Lucky for me, I found these little beauties for much, much lower than that.

Also, the white peacoat above?  I got that on super clearance for $12.  $12!!!!  And in a lovely shade of white.  So classic.

Also, today was Pat's birthday, so what better excuse to break out some sparkly legs?   We went to dinner the the Old Spaghetti Factory in D-town.  (In Denver?  Never been?  Go.)  Then we went to satisfy our sweet teeth at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, where I had the world's best caramel apple (with pecans) of my life.  It was fantastic.  Happy birthday my Love!

Speaking of awesome, I got a fifteen age Wal-Greens employee to think I was a witch doctor today.  Let me back up . . .  I went to the Wall today to pick something up really quick.  The cashier had the hiccups.  "Sorry," he said, "guess I got the hiccups."  Me-"What's your middle name?" (not looking up from the credit card machine) Him (confused)-"David."  Me (looking up to grab my bag) "See if they go away now."  Him-silence, no hiccups, look of astonishment and fear simultaneously.  Me-silently put on sunglasses, grab bag and leave.

Loosing My Mojo

See how horribly awkward this picture is?  There is only one explanation: loser asshole lurkers.  I stand by my initial reaction that this park brings the biggest freaks of nature out of the woodwork.

Let's back up.  It was snowing today, but not awful snowing.  It was nice and warm out, but snow was blowing in and out all day--perfect for OOTD pics.  I couldn't wait to stand in a mild snow globe and snap away on my lunch break.

The place I had initially chosen had a basketball team practicing there, so off I headed to Old Faithful, le Park of Freaks.

I got there and, lucky me, no one was there.  So I set up my tripod in the middle of the basketball court (perhaps influenced by the past park) and got clicking.

There I was, happy as a clam, when I spy with my little eye some wayward freakshows fast approaching at three o'clock, my right, your left.  But, I remained optimistic that these weirdos would maybe give a confused glance and mosey on their own way.

How wrong and naive I am.   Oh no, my friends.  They got to where I was, stopped, stared, stood, watched.  I did what any blogger would do, finish my shot (see picture #2 in awkward pose) and walked over to my camera, pretending to figit with the settings and press various buttons until they moved on.

Then came a fashion blogger's worst nightmare--actual interaction with a complete stranger.  Luckily, the odds were in my favor as these "gentlemen" were clearly high as a kite.  Thus allowing me to be able to give a one-word simplistic answer and ignore the rest of their shenanigans.

"Want me to take your picture for you?"  [no] "Have you seen a basketball around here?  They usually have one hiding in a bush."  {insert inappropriate sexual comment and grunts on my ass} "Do you know where 22nd Street is?"  And they continued walking along, looking backwards every five seconds.  Na-sty.

Lesson to be learned: at the request of Patrick, I am going to get some mace for my OOTD pics.  Also, next time, trust the basketball team.  They are not bound to be such pigs.
