Share the Covers--This Land is My Land

I'm not going to get into too much detail, but really not much is needed--the Muslim ban is disgusting.  So here is an original of a song I've been thinking a lot about . . .

And a really cool cover that I recently saw on a commercial for liquor of all places . . .

Make it Work Monday #57

This week's inspiration for Make it Work Monday comes from a blogger who has become a real-social-media-life friend, Beth of Life with Bethie the Boo.  Beth and I have exchanged pleasantries via our blogs and social media for several years and even more so when she gave birth to her son Oliver ("Ollie") just a few months prior to Reilly's birth.  It has been great to see our little guys grow up beside each other.  She runs a lifestyle blog featuring style, her love of running, food and, of course, little Ollie!  Be sure to check her blog out for sure!

(normally this Stylebook entry is filled out better but I changed the boots and jacket last minute and forgot to add them to the inspiration--doh!)
For those that missed it on Instagram back at Christmas time, my mom made me this jacket.  That's right.  She made me this jacket.  She bought the actual jacket in Italy when she was there with my step-dad.  Then, she added all of these little blingy items.  They are from my grandmother's sewing kit.  As if that was not enough to stop my beating heart, she sewed bits of my grandfather's shirt to the cuffs.  Love.  My cousin also made the necklace.

Mission #99, Day 5

Of course, if you're going overalls, going casual is #1 in my book.  In fact, you can likely see me just like this on any given weekend day.  Make sure your kicks are on point, throw a stylish ball cap on your unwashed mop of hair and add a designer duster trench.  Solved.

Mission #99, Day 4

If you are looking to really extend beyond your comfort zone when wearing overalls, then reach for some of the colored and exaggerated pant leg variety, as with these mustard yellow culotte overalls.  I first saw these on another blogger and they were one of those things that I ordered immediately and have worn them a dozen ways since.  I paired these with colorful boots and a shirt and scarf in contrasting (but complementary) patterns.

Mission #99, Day 3

I actually wore this to work on a casual Friday when we had just gotten a fresh patch of snow.  The boots and scarf were necessary for the same, but, as usual, the blazer was necessary for office appeal.  The tote bag I ordered from a fellow Colorado blogger.  Her work has now been accredited via Glamour magazine and was the perfect accessory for the Women's March last weekend.

Mission #99, Day 2

I thrifted these overalls as well.  Their skinny fit and distressed style make it perfect for layering, as here.  On this chilly winter day, I wore a sweater underneath the overalls, a fur vest over the overalls and over the knee boots.  This made for a very warm, casual and comfy outfit.  Until I had to use the restroom.

Mission #99, Day 1--Overalls

Despite their decline in popularity between the nineties and recent years, I never gave up my love for overalls.  They are comfy, amazingly utilitarian and now, thanks to Pinterest, very stylish.  This week we will be styling overalls and celebrating their excellence.

These overalls are thrifted and I am pretty sure that these formerly belonged to a fourth grade teacher in the 80s.  But with the right accessories--glittery heels, a fur coat, cold shoulder top and cool aviators--they breath new life.  I wore this to a lady doctor appointment, just for funsies, and everyone loved it--mostly I loved it.
