Junkie

MusicPlaylist

Well I am one lucky lady.  Here's why.  When I have a craptastic day, it always turns around.  Seriously.  And, in fact, it sometimes doesn't even wait until the next day.

Last night, my son's baseball game was the shiz.  For real.  It started out with them loosing, catching up, tying, winning, tying again and then winning in the end with a score of 13-8!  Go Royals!

Plus, Kaden is the coolest.  Seriously.  He is such a clown.  That kid was born to make people laugh.  He hit a double last night which had me screaming.  Then, when he got run home, he did a "touchdown" dance and had the crowd rollin'.

And I am uber stoked about tonight.  Oh, what do I have on the agenda you ask?  Nothing.  Not a thing.  No Kumon, no baseball practice, no baseball game.  I got off work and came home.  It was amazing.

Aaaaaaaand Patrick gets back from Canada tonight, which is amazing.  Yes, we are over our little tiff yesterday re puddle jumpers.  I can't wait to lay on his lap and . . .

Catch up on Sons of Anarchy!  This means I get to have my physical love, Patrick and watch my imaginary love, Jacks all in one night.

I'm not a TV person.  In fact, other than Jerseylicious and the occasional movie with Patrick and/or the kids I don't even watch TV.  I much prefer music.  TV habits drive me insane (ask Patrick).

There have been very few shows that have honestly hooked me.  SATC, obvi.  Jerseylicious.  And now Sons of Anarchy.  I need to balance my girliness somehow.

I am so stoked and simultaneously amazed that tomorrow is a) Friday (woop woop) and b) the first day of June.  Say whaaaaaaaaaa?

Patrick has drill at the base this weekend (boo!) so I have to soak up all the lovins I have from him while I can.   But, I get to pick up the kiddos tomorrow and that is always a plus!

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some virtual man candy to lust over and some actual man candy to indulge in.  Kisses!

Dressin' for My Profession

MusicPlaylist

I am smiling in these pictures, but don't be fooled.  Today was full of ups and downs.  I know that a lot of bloggers like to post smiley pictures and play like life is all rainbows and macaroons (maybe it actually is, maybe it's actually not--I don't care either way.  I'm not here to judge.  I just like to look at clothes), but that just ain't me kid.

Here's the sitch.  Patrick is out of the country up in Canada for business.  Now it should be said that, in all honesty, Patrick and I have a great relationship.  We see eye to eye on a lot of things and therefore the disagreements are pretty minimal.

But sometimes, we do argue.  And I think it is mostly just to keep ourselves in check because when we do argue it seems to be over really stupid stuff.  (Anyone ever heard Dane Cook talk about Nothing Fights?  Right on the money.)  Last night while we were having our long distance I love you chats, we started arguing about puddle jumpers.  Don't ask.  It's a long story.  And even stupider when you hear the whole thing.

So I didn't wake up in a good mood.  Also, I enrolled Kaden in summer camp.  He is at that age (and maturity level) where he's ok to be home alone . . . but not all day.  I need somewhere that he can go whilest I make that pap-uh.  This is held through his (now former) elementary school and sounded money.  I mean field trips three times a week and activities in between.

Well, we got there and he was the oldest kid in the program.  He was not enthused and shot me this look like I had just dropped him off at Barney Camp.  I felt awful, but I knew if he would give it a chance, he'd be aight.  Plus, I have no where else to turn for him.

This left me even more in a bitter mood as I drove to work.  Work was dull and boring.  With Daryl gone, there is only so much that can be done in his absence and we've been dead.  Which was fine.  Until I started getting emails from Conner's dad which left me frustrated, to say the least.  I'm not going to go all Baby Mama drama on you.  You wouldn't even want to hear the full story but the bottom line is that the hope I had earlier this year that we could cooperate as a team for the kids is slowly disintegrating before my eyes.

But as I said, there were some ups of the day.  For one, Dawn, Sally and I got to leave le office for a few hours today to trek down to the Court house for a seminar on the new electronic filing system.  I love to get out of the office, learn new things and have the opportunity to actually dress like I'm a professional.  Once in a while.  Plus, I got to use this amazing backdrop by the Court for my photos.

Also, our office was getting the carpets cleaned at 3 which meant I got an early day.  Sure, they didn't make it until after 3:30, but it was still early.

And when I picked Kaden up from summer camp, he had a smile on his face and seemed to have had a good time (though in his pre-teen way he told me it was only "alright").  They have a field trip tomorrow, so I think slowly but surely he will figure out that it could be worse.

Not to mention, he has his first baseball game of the season tonight!  Of which, I am so stoked.  As a non-sports fan, there is nothing I love to do more in the summer than watch my son work the baseball field.  He is in his element and I am the luckiest mom in the world!

T.G.I.A.T.

MusicPlaylist

Thank Goodness It's Already Tuesday, eh?  Don't worry.  It'll catch on soon enough.

I think everyone must still be on holiday or in holiday mode because today le office was deader than a doornail Smalls.

So, I was able to look up a few wedding DIYs.  The closer I get to this wedding, the more excited I am to see it all come together.

I am not really a DIY connoisseur.  In fact, until I got engaged I didn't even own a hot glue gun.  I know, it's the astonishment of the century.

But thus far, I've been able to DIY my flower girl baskets, my ring bearer box, several Mason jars for centerpieces and decoration, a card box and Save the Dates.  Not too shabby.

And, if I do say so myself, they've come out rather nicely.  And I am a big fan of wedding DIYs for a couple of reasons.

The first, obviously, is the expense.  I have three kids.  And though Patrick's mom and my mom are helping us a bit finance-wise, Patrick and I are mostly on our own as far as paying for the wedding.  I don't know how much I've saved by DIYing so far, but I'd imagine it's at least a couple of hundred dollars.

More importantly, though, I love the unique and personal touch that DIYs give to a wedding.  Even if others are not impressed with my DIY handy work, I know that I put my own blood, sweat and tears into them and that means something.

And it wasn't just me.  My daughter particularly took to helping me decorate tons of little mason jars with burlap and different ribbons.  And that in and of itself is special to me--having that bonding time with her.

So even though it takes a lot of work and there is a lot more to be done with this wedding planning, I am confident that it will get done and even if it isn't the fanciest of affairs, it will be totally Patrick and I.  And really what more would you want in a wedding?

Memorable Memorial Day

MusicPlaylist

On this gorgeous Memorial Day weekend, I am very proud, humbled and grateful for several things.

I am thankful, of course, to all the veterans in our country and in my life that make it possible for us to live the way that we do--like this little corner of the internet I use to showcase my style, ramblings and the occasional swear word without recourse.

I am grateful for my job and having the day off.  I still remember a few years back when I was working retail while going to school.  National holidays were not something I was used to having off.  And now I can and it is glorious.

I am thankful that the nice weather played out today so I could spend some time with my kiddos at the water park, soak up some sun and spend some time with my favorite veteran--Patrick.

I am thankful for the M&M cookie ice cream sandwiches that we indulged in on the way home from said water park.

I am grateful for the smell of BBQ in the air and the atmosphere of freedom that encompasses us on this National holiday.

I am grateful to be giving my feetsies a break for the past three days with some flat footware and the comfort of casual looks.

I am so entertained by my daughter's new found, um, talent at mastering the Roku remote.  Do any of you have a Roku?  It is fantastic.  I am also grateful for our Roku.

I am grateful that Brielle (a horse enthusiast) found the perfect cartoon for her--Horseland.  It is a cartoon about a bunch of girls (and a couple of boys) and their horses.  She looooooooves it.

Although I would be equally thankful if she found something else that tickled her fancy.  We don't ever watch TV in our house, but now that she learned how to use the remote, she just wants to work the TV--usually flipping from movie to movie about five minutes in.

I am grateful for my newly thrifted wicker Fossil tote.  It is perfect for summer fun and holds just the right amount of mom stuff.

I am thankful for Patrick who helps me keep my cool.  Honestly, the weekend has been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and I've been a little high strung.  That coupled with the fact that the Sons of Anarchy that Patrick and I have been watching for a few days now may or may not have rubbed off on me attitude-wise.  So here's what happened . . .

We got to the water park.  I went to choose a picnic table for our little lunch and a teenager walked over to me and said it was reserved for his graduation.  I told him no worries, we would just park it in the nearby grass and I told him happy graduation.  Well, we were there for about an hour before that same teenager marched over with some other teens and set up a badminton net about two feet from where we were sitting.  I was a little confused because we had clearly been parked in this spot for a while now.  I mean, towels spread, shoes aligned, water bottles ascew.  But they kept on.  I said nothing, thinking that perhaps they were setting up for a game later after we had left.  But then they started playing and I kind of lost it.  I started arguing with them about not wanting my stuff stepped on and not wanting to dodge badminton balls and that I had moved for them earlier and that it was obvious that we had set up camp in this spot and that we had little kids that I didn't want to get hit with the balls and--then Patrick came over calmly and put a kibosh on my rant with a calm and orderly plea for them to wait until we left to play.  Yeah, he's good for me.  ;-)
