Hopscotch at Noon

MusicPlaylist

"I have some chalk in my desk.  We'll break it out at noon for hopscotch," Bert (an attorney in my office) stated when he saw my shoes.

For whatever reason, I have been really excited to wear this look, which was 'zine-spired by this look from my InStyle magazine:

My dress is actually much longer, but looked a little Farmer's Daughter for the look I was going for.  A few rolls and a safety pins later and we had a shorter dress!  I even made a high-low hem on accident and was quite pleased with the way it came out.

Not only that, but I got to wear my new Saddle Oxfords from Payless.  I can't really explain why, but I have always had an adoration for Saddle Oxfords.  I even have them in platforms!

I had planned on straightening my hair but something amazing happened this morning.  9 times out of 10 my hair misbehaves.  Another 10 times out of 10 I don't want to do my hair.

But this morning something crazy happened, I went to do my hair and it looked good.  Now I'm no mathematician, but I think that adds up to 100% win.

Not only that, but I had a lot of fun with my pictures today.  I went before work to a place I'd never been before and found this enormous, beautiful tree.

I got to go pick up my kids.  Work was good.  The weather was pretty mild (after days of being in the triple digits, 95 feels like a cakewalk).

All in all, a perfect start to the weekend.  The kids and I even hit up a thrift store on the way home.  You should have seen the wonderment on Conner's face.  He loved it!

And so did Brielle.  She has been long overdue for a booster seat to replace her car seat.  We found one, bought it, used it right away, turned right around and donated her old car seat.

She was much more accepting than I was about donating it.  My baby is growing up!  I can't believe she's going to be in kindergarten this fall.

Kaden was pretty stoked too.  He wasn't with Conner, Brielle and I, but I did find him a Jackie Chan movie and a new shell necklace.  He had broken his last year and was super bummed about it.

I might not be able to tell the future, but from what I can tell, this is going to be an amazing weekend.  I see lots of pool time, cousin time (my nieces will be here in the morning!), giggles and grilled food in our future . . .

That Was Better

MusicPlaylist

Rain.  Glorious rain!  We've had a few patches of sprinkles here and there, but nothing significant.  And they were often accompanied by thunder and lightning, causing more fires (isn't that crazy ironic that the one thing that could help put out the fires--rain storms--actually started more fires???).  But today it poured for about an hour or more.  Halleluiah!

This was my 'zine-spiration for today.  I couldn't pull off the scarf (I almost melted in just the cardigan), but I had the rest of the stuff in my closet to pull off something similar (including a cardigan with elbow patches!).

After Nakita's little stunt with the trash yesterday, my wonderful handyman ended up screwing the trashcan to the wall so it could not be tipped over anymore.  I came home to find that she had tried to get into the trash yet again, but was defeated by Patrick's brilliant plan.  Take some!

Tonight I came home from picking up Kaden after work to . . . nothing.  Not a damn thing.  No baseball, no tutoring, no running around.  It is blissful.

Because I had a spare minute between picking Kaden up from a field trip and getting off of work, I decided to stop into Goodwill.

I didn't get much (I was good), but I did score on a few really cute shirts!  I am pretty stoked about it.  But then again, when am I not stoked for new clothes?

Speaking of stoked, tomorrow is Friday!!!  Which is not only the end of the work week (can I get an amen??), but also means I get to pick up my younger two kiddos after work.

Aaaand I get to watch my nieces this weekend because . . . today is my sister's birthday!!!!  Happy birthday Peeps!

Disturbed and Perturbed

MusicPlaylist

Just call me Runaround Sue.  Jeez.  The first half of my day was . . . shitty.  I'm just gonna say it.  First of all, I'm going to spare you all the deets on the first story, but I will give you a recap of sorts.

So the short, much less colorful, story of this morning went like this--call from my ex saying Conner was writhing in stomach pain followed by a text saying that he was having his blood and urine tested and his stomach x-rayed because the doctors thought he had appendicitis followed by me incessantly asking him where they were followed by leaving work in a panic to a destination still unknown in a town an hour away from my work.

I never got a reply back to where Conner was being treated.  All I knew was he was at an urgent care.  But there is more than one urgent care.  And because of HIPPA, they can't tell me over the phone if my son is there or not.  So I had to drive to alllllll of the urgent cares and walk inside to see if Conner was there.  As I was approaching the last urgent care, my ex texts me to tell me that Conner actually does not have appendicitis--just constipation.  I asked him to wait so I could at least see Conner since I had been driving in the blazing heat for over an hour and a half-ish to try to find him.  But, I was not granted that.  So it was all for nothing.  The overheating, the gas, the time away from work, the anxiety and panic.  Nothing.

Plus side--Conner is ok and hopefully on the way to recovery.  Bottom side--I was pissed.  Correction: pissssssed that I did not get the courtesy text of where Conner was.  *steps off soapbox*

But this was not the only traumatizing thing that happened to me today.  Ladies, the following story is not for the faint of heart.  But here's what happened:

So I had to pee at work today.  Our office has one bathroom for the floor out in the hall.  I went to go use it, open the door and there sits a woman with her pants at her ankles, playing on her phone.  All I could think to do was shriek and stand in horror.  I was stunned!  And mortified.  Who doesn't lock the door.  And the woman didn't even seem upset!

Yikes.  Anyways . . . after work I had to take Kaden to Kumon, go to the store, do some laundry, do the dishes and then get Kaden ready for a baseball game at 8.  But I came home to find that Nakita had gotten into the trash.  My house . . . was destroyed.

I wasn't havin' it.  I had to leave the mess for Patrick and head to the store.  But I was in such a tizzy over my day that when I got to the store I completely spaced what all I needed at the store.

So what did I do?  I just went with my instincts.  I got the basics.  And by basics, I clearly mean milk and the new issue of InStyle.

But what better way to end a shitty day?  Seeing Kaden's team kick ass tonight.  Seriously, the score was 19-7.  And Kaden had an amazing hit.  Now if that doesn't cheer you up, I don't know what would.

Good News Bad News

MusicPlaylist

Good news.  We actually did get rain today.  For about fifteen minutes.  Bad news.  It was a thunderstorm.  It had lightning.  And it lit Boulder Canyon on fire.  I work in Boulder.

This is how it looked when I left work from our parking lot . . .

And at the end of our street . . .

Last I heard from my mom (who works down the street from me), she was told they were evacuating the area where I work and/or are going to take power down in the area we work.  Seriously.  Sorry to keep talking about the fire but it is all we hear about over here.

So, while I find out if I have work tomorrow or not, why don't you take a gander at my inspiration for today.  I'm fairly certain it came from InStyle (I'm an avid reader) wherein Eva Longoria gets a "steal" on her dress from Express.  While it is super cute and probably high quality, you know my ass was like "$88 a steal?!?!?  I could get like 20 dresses for that!"  Don't judge.

Like my wanna be impression of the Eva Longoria?  LOL  I might have been off a smidge . . .

Good news.  I loved the way this outfit turned out.  It was super cool and comfortable all day.  I luuuuuuurve this dress I thrifted last fall.  Bad news.  I almost couldn't find the perfect scarf to pull it off.

Good news.  I got to hang out with my best friend tonight, Chris (in case you're an old school reader, I hope you're not confused.  I have two besties--Matt and Chris).  We went to our favorite place to eat: Raisin Canes in Fort Collins.

Bad news.  It was in Fort Collins.  No offense to Fort Collins (or Fort Compton or the Fort or Fo Co, if you will), but we are from that area.  Therefore, not huge fans of the town.

Good news.  We had fried chicken for days, laughed a lot and had a blasty.  It was a lot of fun and I will totally miss him and our IM convos while he is on a little staycation for two months.

Bad news.  So.  Much.  Chicken.  So.  Full.

Good news.  I noticed today that this park that I was taking my pictures in today was called "Frannie Memorial Garden."  Yay!

Bad news.  It means this Frannie died.  Really sad :-(  I wonder what she was like . . . Obviously loved enough to get a garden named after her.  ;-)

Good news.  I have managed to write nearly an entire post on random ramblings whilest I try to get my mind off of the fact that our state is literally like the gates of Hell at the moment.

Bad news.  I have managed to write nearly an entire post on random ramblings whilest I try to get my mind off of the fact that our state is literally like the gates of Hell at the moment.

With that, I reckon it might be bedtime for me.  I'll keep ya posted.  Bad news.  I just used the word "reckon."  Peace out.
