Today's birthday week inspiration comes in two forms of professional power houses: Ronald Reagan and Tom Brokaw, both born on my same birthday--February 6.
So clearly, I was erring on the side of professional. I actually had a different blazer picked out for this, buuuuuuuuuut I just had to pull out the denim blazer that I got on my thrifting adventure last night.
You know who kicks ass? My little brother's girlfriend Ginestra. You know what sucks? Waking up to a dead battery in your car.
Let me paint you a picture. In the 15 years that I have been employed in my life, I have been a very reliable employee. I am not late, I don't call in and I pull my own weight. Last Thursday I had to leave early to go to a doctor's appointment, Friday we had a snow day and I left early yesterday for my birthday. Needless to say I was antsy about putting in an eight hour day today.
But alas, that ambition went right out the window when I went to warm up my car in typical mom fashion--towel in my hair, just woke up Kaden and telling Brielle to brush her teeth--and nothing. Not a click. Not a whine. Nothing.
What you also need to understand about me is that I am in all sexist forms of the word a girlie girl. I don't do sports, I don't do mud and I certainly don't do cars. I panicked, of course and called Patrick (he was already at work) who asked me to call my mom (lives a few blocks away) to come and jump my car. She was already at work so she asked me to call my brother and his girlfriend (who live a couple of blocks away too).
Ginestra came over and just like a bad ass, helped me push my car out of the garage, hook up jumper cables and try to charge my battery. Still nothing. So she took me to Wal-Mart to get a new battery and then . . .
I am not kidding you when I tell you that bitch rolled up her sleeves, jump on top of my exposed hood and ratchet and plier and nut and bolt and torque and screw and un-corrode and get all greasy and spout out fragments of instructions to me and install a new battery in my car. I was at work by 10. Seriously. I need to learn from this girl. I would've been lost without her. Love more Gin!

I'm just gonna say it... your butt looks great in those pants! :D
ReplyDeleteYou know what also kicks ass? That you share a b-day with Tom Brokaw. Your story had me cracking up. I'm no stranger to car problems myself. I'm girly and clueless about mechanics, so imagine how distraught I was when my vehicle broke down in the middle of a warehouse district. I found two trucker guys to help push me out of the intersection.
