Mission #9, Day 5

For the last look this Mission Week, I went all blue with a playful dress and colored leather jacket.  I didn't have blue shoes, but these flats will work.

This is a scheduled post because when you are reading this, I will be on my way down to my mom's house to help her get ready for her wedding!

I am so excited for her.  I remember my wedding day as one of the best days of my life.  And I am extremely excited to get off of work early, pick up the kiddos, spend time with my family and eat some awesome food!

It is fitting that I chose blue to close out the monochromatic/color-blocking challenge because blue is my mom's favorite color.  And it is one of her wedding colors too.

So happy wedding weekend Mom!  I love you so much!  Congrats to you and to Gary!

Mission #9, Day 4

This was another favorite look for Mission Week.  Colored jeans make it so easy to color block!  Just add a solid colored blouse and you're all set!

You all will be happy to know that I went and got a pedicure today.  Yes, I did.  For the second time ever too.  My mom's wedding is Saturday and my sister, brother and I are in it.  Because my sister's pregnant and we are dressing the same, we are wearing sandals . . . so I kind of had to.

As I've previously mentioned, I'm pretty self conscious about my feet.  In honesty, they are one of the least favorite parts of my body.  They are wide and my toes are all fucked up from jamming them into heels and they're just not the pretty little petite feet that most women can pull off.

This is made more annoying by the fact that everyone always talks about my toes for some reason.  I've even had a client of another lawyer in our firm mention my toes in the last couple of weeks.  The thing is . . . I just don't care much about my toes.  So nearly every time you see them painted, you can thank my daughter, who loves to paint my toes.

Pedicures give me anxiety.  I usually can't understand the woman doing it, I hate people touching my feet and I am so nervous that I am being talked about while the procedure takes place.  I don't find it as soothing and relaxing as most women.  I'm a freak.  A weird footed freak.

Mission #9, Day 3

This wasn't my favorite color blocking look for Mission Week, but Daryl (my boss) really, for some reason, loved this outfit.  So . . . it goes.

Another fun way to color block is to use two complimentary colors and just put them together.  I called this my "watermelon look".

Yesterday I spoke about why I liked taking my blog pictures.  On that same note, I've noticed something else that brings me happiness.

Driving.  Turning my phone off, blaring my music, drinking my coffee-slash-Dr. Pepper and just singing/dancing/thinking.

This is only amplified by the fact that a few weeks ago Patrick got me an iPhone.  And I hadn't set it up yet (still holdin' onto the Blackberry), but Patrick forced me to yesterday.

And I am sooooooo glad that he did.  I loooooove that thing.  And I haven't even messed with it that much.   But I was able to listen to Pandora on the way to work.

There really isn't much better than laughing your way to work to the likes of Louis C.K. and Bill Burr.  Seriously.  Try it.

Mission #9, Day 2

Primary colors are some of the easiest colors to color block, making this look just perfect-o for Mission Week.

On this day, I had to drop my kiddos off to their dad in Loveland.  It is important for me to tell you that I loathe going to Loveland.  I hate that town.  It's small, it's boring, I spent a good part of my adolescence there.

Buuuuuuuut, they have a pretty impressive Sculpture Park with a bunch of really cool sculptures.  I even know a couple of people from high school, etc. that have sculptures there.

So, since I had the time, I opted to swallow my severe hatred for this town and take my pictures in this park that I hadn't been to in forever.  It is even across the street from my high school!

So needless to say, I got a little photo-happy.  Sorry.  But it was mostly to show you the cool ass statues, not the outfit.  Although, I have to admit it is one of my recent faves.

Often times I hear other bloggers talk about how taking outfit photos is such a chore.  Mostly because it's a chunk of time.  I usually take about 20 minutes, but that's because I'm in a hurry and that's why my photos are often less than fabulous.

For me though, this is the most relaxing part of my day.  It's only 20 minutes, but it's 20 minutes of peace.  I leave my phone in the car.  There's no child pulling at my legs, no clients calling, no problems.  Just quiet.

This is the time of day where I get to explore, even for just a moment.  I get to find little treasures in the city I live in, work in and frequent.  Little treasures that I never noticed really until I started blogging.  I get to play with my photography.

I'm a simple person really.  Give me a camera, a cute outfit and 20 minutes of peace and I'm all set.

Mission #9, Day 1

Today I wore this mint on mint look for the first day of Mission Week.  I haven't been able to properly photograph this mint tank until I got my new camera but it finally looks more green than white.  Hooray.

One very easy way to try the monochromatic look is to play with textures and different shades of the same color.  Here you see that my shorts are a darker mint than the tank.

To keep the look fresh, I used white accessories, which complimented the mint nicely I thought.  A few touches of silver jewelry added a bit more sophistication.

Today I'm not at work because it is Memorial Day.  I cannot tell you how glad I was to not have to go to work today.  On Saturday, I was confined to bed and it sucked.  Yesterday Patrick and I had a wedding to go to.  And today I had to take my sister, brother, cousin and brother's best friend shopping to get them something to wear to my mom's wedding next weekend.

And we got it all done at one store (Kohl's in case you were wondering) in under an hour and a half.  Not too shabby.  My brother and his best friend are very willing styling participants which is always a lot of fun.

I got everything done that I wanted to get done today, even though not all of it was as fun as shopping.  And even though it wasn't pool lounging or bbq-ing like I was hoping for this weekend, it was a good one with the perfect balance of lazy and productive all the same.
