I've made a lot of arguably bad decisions in my life. They have resulted in many trials and tribulations that made my life much harder than it probably had to be. Of course, getting pregnant at 18 was probably not a great idea (although it was totally unintentional).
Getting pregnant by someone who was abusive was a worse decision. And then I finally got the nerve to leave and the little amount of time that he had spent with Kaden turned non-existent when Kaden was not even two. None of these circumstances are great.
For years Kaden has struggled--in school with learning disabilities and with various psychological disturbances that he came to be presented with. One would think that through all that this poor 14 year old has been through, he would be an outrageous statistical pain in the ass. But I am happy to report the opposite. Kaden is quite responsible--he is where he needs to be when he needs to be there. He is loyal to his family and his friends. He is respectful, always smiling and amazing with kids.
A few weekends ago, he spent the night with a friend of his who wanted him to sneak out in the middle of the night. Kaden told us this the next day and told us that he told his friend he would not sneak out for three reasons--his mom would kick his ass, his dad would kick his ass (he did not really say "ass"), he already gets to see his girlfriend whenever he wants and trust takes a long time to build up and he didn't want to risk losing it.
So after all the seemingly bad decisions I have made in my life, it turns out that maybe I'm not doing so bad after all.
