Because Anya Said So

 

My sister and I had a plan today to go down to Denver to visit our brother.

Faced with an uncharacteristically large number of outfits I had in mind to wear today, I decided to leave fate up to my adorable niece, Anya.

"Anya, what color should Auntie wear today?"

In case you couldn't tell, her answer for today was blue.  And with two recent absolute steals from Forever 21 burning a hole in my closet, I was happy to oblige.

I've wanted a polka dot sweater and gingham shirt for-ev-er (I hope you used your best Sandlot voice for that).  So when I saw these on the F21 website, I knew I had to bite the bullet.

I kept the look pretty casual with my old faithful saddle oxfords.  These shoes are some of the most worn in my closet.  For real.

I have to give mad props to Anya for this outfit.  She's pretty awesome.  She takes after her Auntie.  ;-)

I just finished all that Netflix has to offer for Gossip Girl thus far.  I have to say, I got way more attached to the show than I had anticipated.  And now I cannot wait until Season 6 is out.

It's funny because I've never been a tv girl.  Like at all.  Patrick likes it because he basically has free reign over the tv.  But between Gossip Girl and Sons of Anarchy, I've become a tv drama series fanatic.

Of course, there was much more than New York City (still my lifelong dream and obsession to go there one day) and the plot line that gives the show that kick of flair.

Of course a big part of the success of the show is, indeed, the fashion.  And while I could never live up the LV and DG lifestyle those girls do, I decided today it would be fun to put a little Serena in my step.

How does one get inspired by a (fictional) NYC "It Girl" from the Upper East Side with not a designer label in my arsenal?

Dissection and interpretation.  And for that I went with sequins (is it just me or does Serena wear more sequins than anyone on the planet?), boots with a boho vibe and color.

Because the other option, a bodycon dress that accentuates mile long legs and perfect bossom, was not really in the cards for the office.  Or my body.  Or my budget.  So this will do.

Thursday Mixer--Black Jumpsuit

 

I've actually had this jumpsuit forevah-evah and though I've worn it a bajillion times, it's only made it on the blog a handful.  But I loves it.  It is incredibly versatile, even though it's strapless.  It can be layered, dressed up, dressed down, and goes perfectly from office to after hours.

Which is great because that is exactly what I was doing today because . . .

Pat, the kids and I went to a special event tonight wherein my Mother in Law was being announced as the 2013 MS Champion!  We are so proud of her.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, my MIL is the absolute coolest and sweetest woman ever.  I could not ask for a better MIL and I am so proud of her.  She is going to be honored at a benefit in March and Patrick and I are going.  It is going to be spectacular.

Not to derail from the wonderfulness that is my married-into-family, but I had a conversation today at work with an attorney in our office that went something like this:

I walk down the stairs

Attorney: "Oh Robin, do you know what I just thought of?"

Me: "That I obviously just watched the episode of Gossip Girl where they have the Studio 54 party and that's why I'm wearing big hair and a jumpsuit?"

Attorney: "Yes."

Me: "Really????"

Attorney: "No."
