Mission #30, Day 4--Menswear--Jeans and Blazer

This menswear look for Mission Week is kind of a wash--more of a unisex look really.  But as I begun to run out of ways to recreate a menswear look that I can pull off pregnant, I decided to go with something that a man could also wear.  Minus, probably, the glittery shoes.  Those take a special kind of man.

And speaking of a special kind of man, the further along in my pregnancy that I get, the more protective that Patrick gets.  He went with me to the grocery store this weekend for the first time ever.  Then, he only let me carry two things into the house when we got home: paper towels and eggs.  He actually took the eggs out of the bag and handed them to me.

He parks the van in the driveway for me to get out instead of having me maneuver through the garage.  He has tried to cut me off of soda (the only vice I have unsuccessfully cut from my routine).  He doesn't like me to use the step stool in the kitchen.

As I mentioned, he has been doing some major remodeling in the house lately.  Last night he was gluing pipes together with this super crazy glue and he had every window open and fans on so that the fumes were not consumed by me.

With all of this construction and remodel, there is a whole trailer full of drywall that needs to go to the dump.  I told Patrick we should look up the next available free dump day.  It is May 1.  "Ooooooh that's cutting it a little too close," he says.  Because apparently, come May 1 we will be barricading ourselves in the house with cans of beans and hot towels.  I'm due mid-May.

He's adorable.

Mission #30, Day 3--Menswear--Sporty--AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY CONNER!!!

I chose to sport this sporty menswear inspired look for Mission Week for a very special reason.  Today my baby boy turns 9 years old.  I can hardly believe it.  Between the hormones of this pregnancy and the fact that I won't see him for his birthday (he's with his dad), I am extra emotional about it.

As we get nearer to the d-date with this little one, I continuously have memories of the birth stories of my other kiddos.  It's so funny how their birth stories all relate to their own personalities.  Conner's birth was quick, very matter-of-fact and amazing.

Being an extremely gullible and over trusting person all my life, I'd never been a fan of April Fool's Day.  This being well known, everyone said that I would go into labor on April Fool's Day.  I told them there was no way that would happen (even though it could since I was due on April 7).  My mom even took Kaden for the night in anticipation of such an event.

Unfortunately, my grandpa had been in the hospital for a couple of weeks at this point with kidney complications.  At about 10:30 or so on April Fool's Day evening, my dad called me to tell me that he had passed away in Phoenix.  I went to bed a little sad (we weren't close, but he was a cool guy) at about 11.  Around 11:17, I had my first big contraction.  By 11:30, I was in agony, waking up my ex and demanding to go to the hospital.  I didn't ever need to time my contractions, but they were right on top of each other.  There was no mistaking it, I was having this baby.  Four and a half hours later, at 4:02 a.m. on 4/2/05 Conner Thomas Clark was born.

It is uncanny that he was born on such a cool number timeline (4:02 on 4/2).  The kid is AMAZING with numbers.  It was perfect that he was born in the midst of sad news--he can always bring a smile to your face.  It was so "him" the way that labor went--ok, we're doing this, let's get it done and move on.  Very efficient.  This kid is so mellow, so caring, so smart, so cool.  He is truly the definition of a great kid.  And I am so blessed to have him as my son.

Happy birthday Conner!  I love you so much!

Mission #30, Day 2--Menswear--Necktie

Continuing with the menswear theme of Mission Week, nothing says menswear like a tie--even a hot pink one.  This tie is actually one Patrick had to wear for a wedding and he promptly gave it to me afterwards and I love it.

I can, however, understand why men don't particularly enjoy wearing ties.  When it comes to menswear, it is probably one of the biggest ranking in the uncomfortable department.  But it does help add extra funk (and color!) to this super funky outfit that I wore out to run errands a few weekends ago.

I was recently on the phone with my sister.  She has three girls--7, 5 and 3 months.  She is a stay at home mother to which I give her mad props.  I don't know that I could handle it.  Needless to say, sometimes you can get a little frustrated with the kids and they can get a little tired of your shit as well.

She told me of one such particular day recently in which she got annoyed with the girls not cleaning up their room.  She ended up going in there with a trash bag and told the girls that whatever she picked up and put in the bag was getting thrown away.  She, of course, expected that this would cause mass panic and help speed up the process.

What she got, however, was this reaction from my oldest niece, Anya: "That's fine, Mama.  I have way too many of those.  You can throw those out."  And my younger niece, Emma, ended up handing her a bunch of toys to add to the trash pile.

Kids.  Always something.
