Dear Frannie Friday--Best 80's Commercials

Growing up, we didn't have cable until I was almost out of middle school.  We relied heavily on the ole VHS for digital entertainment.  And by VHS I mean that we watched the shows that my grandparents would tape for us on VHS.  And they kept the commercials in.  So my sister and I rotated about 4-5 tapes at a time and thus became pretty familiarized with the commercials of our times.  Here are some of our favorites that I still remember:

Thursday Mixer--Rust Harem Pants

When I first saw a slew of harem trousers on various style blogs, I said to myself "no waaaaaay."  But, as with many other trends, I found myself searching high and low for them after a while--certain that I could give them a whirl and make them work.

Since I was just trying them out, I scooped these up off of eBay for relatively cheap--I think about $10 or less.  But for $10 and at at least 6 documented wears, that makes about $2 per wear.  Not too shabby.

Top Left to Right-1, 2, Now, 4
Bottom Left to Right-1, 2

The greatest thing about these pants is that every time I've worn them, I've been forced to create a look that I wouldn't otherwise have thought of.  For some reason, they bring out the most creative part of me.  And they are insanely comfy.  Win!

And even though they lose a bit of their looser shaped appeal when I'm roughly 50% heavier than I was seven months ago or so, the comfort level trumps that.  Fo sho.

Whine's Day

I love being a mother.  Every birth of every one of my children have been the best days of my life.  And although this is my first planned pregnancy and I have really tried to be positive about pregnancy, this time around, there are some things that still stink.  This is especially true as I roll into the third trimester (What?  I'm 2/3 done all ready?  Yeah.).

First of all, there is something to be said about being pregnant with my fourth child.  It's a whole other ball game.  Jim Gaffigan kind of sums it up like this:

Seriously though, when I got my new minivan, my boss told me that no one "needs it" more than I do.  Not deserves it (first brand new car EVER!), but needs it.  Another attorney recently told me that I "really must get around" when she learned it was my fourth.  That was way harsh, Ty.  I mean, I know that four kids is a lot, but it's my choice.  And if I'm happy with it, then you be happy for me.  Or shut up and leave me alone.

In addition to the emotional annoyance of pregnancy, there are the typical physical ailments.  My feet are swollen as all heck--making it really hard to damn near impossible to sport my shoe collection in their entirety.  I have sciatica for the first time ever and it is so painful and debilitating that I have just recently started seeing a chiropractor for it.  I've never had that before.  Varicose veins.   Gross.  My skin is super dry and scaly.  I swear I apply lotion fifteen times a day.

Sleep no longer exists to me.  For one, ever since I found out I was pregnant my body will not allow me to sleep in past about 8 on any given morning.  Even weekends.  In addition to that, the actual sleep is pretty freaking ridiculous in and of itself.  I have crazy dreams all night long.  The bigger I get, the worse my sciatica worsens and the harder it is to actually get comfortable on any given night.  My sinuses and nose have been completely plugged up since about November or October and my lungs are getting more compressed so I can barely breath.

Eating is also an issue.  In the first 14 weeks or so of pregnancy, I was SO overcome with nausea that I could eat only popsicles, fruit and yogurt.  Then that got a little better, but this baby is picky.   For a long time I couldn't eat meat (even though I was doing the vegetarian thing prior to so it wasn't that big of a deal).  I still can't stomach pizza (unless it's barbecue chicken), Mexican food or cooked vegetables.  And now my stomach is so squashed that I can barely eat a fistful of food at t time before I feel so full I think I'm gonna be sick.

Ah, pregnancy.  It's worth it in the end (obvi) and I am extremely blessed and lucky to be able to conceive and carry a baby to term and this very active little one really lights up my life already.  But anyone who tries to tell you that it is all rainbows and unicorns is full of shit.  For real.

Share the Covers--Hit 'Em Up Style

The original by Blu Cantrall . . .

An awesome cover by The Voice star Nic Hawk . . .

The new associate introduced me to this amazing cover.  I don't watch the show, but I did certainly love this young man's performance.  What an awesome song choice!

Patrick brought me this cardigan back from a recent business trip to Oregon.  It was from a little business out there owned by a woman.  And this cardigan is the comfiest thing EVER!

These photos were taken a few weeks back when we were in the thick of back to back snow.  And constant wind, snow and cold calls for comfy layers--like jeggings, flat combat boots and comfy cardigans.

I, along with everyone else in the country, am DONE with winter and snow.  Even though we've had it fairly easy, I'm ready to bid this weather adieu.

Mission Monday #28--Graphic Tees

I am not so officially obsessed with band and graphic tees.  Music has always had a big influence on my life and subsequently, I hoard remnants of memorabilia.  There are lots of fun ways to wear a band or graphic tee.  Next week, we'll explore.

What has been going on in my world lately is that Patrick is nesting.  Yes, that's right.  Patrick is starting to freak out about getting everything ready for the baby.  It's adorable.

What it also means is that he has been quite the busy bee.  Every time I turn around, he's measuring walls, visiting hardware stores and looking up "how-to's" online.

You see, not only is he like setting up cribs and swings and stuff ready.  No, no.  He is also in full on remodel mode.  Like we're talking about insulation in the walls, busting down walls, moving entire bathrooms.

I've tried to tell him that we don't need this stuff done before the baby gets here--which won't be for another two and a half months.  And that once the baby comes, it won't be mobile for about six months or so.

But my husband is an ambitious man.  And when he puts his mind to something, he gets it done.  And, it's adorable to watch.  From the couch.  Because at this point, thinking of his plans makes me exhausted.

Mission #27, Day 5--Floppy Hat

A floppy hat is a great hat in the summer time, but in other seasons it can also add an element of old school glam, I think.  So I wore this one for the last day of Mission Week.  Unfortunately, I wore it on one of the windiest days in existence and only have a few photos that worked.

Fortunately, I was able to keep the link up option available for those that are interested, thanks to the advice from Two Birds of using a different version of Inlinkz.   Thanks ladies!

Mission #27, Day 4--Beanie

The best hat you can wear in the winter is a beanie.  Duh!  So it was obviously going to be debuted for Mission Week.  A beanie is a necessity in the winter, but having a cute one is a definite bonus.

These photos were from a couple of weeks ago.  It's been insanely nice here recently.  So, this is not what I was wearing today.  I tell you this because I want to share with you the greeting I got from my six year old daughter this morning.

She was downstairs eating breakfast and I came downstairs after getting dressed.  She turns toward me from the table and says the following:

"Stop.  Let me see what you're wearing," she orders.  Obediently I give her the old turn 'n pose.  She is quiet for a second, cocks her head to one side and tells me:

"Those shoes don't go with your shirt.  But I guess it's ok."  Thanks for your input Brielle.
