Shaun T-isms

MusicPlaylist

I wore my favorite eShakti dress today to remind y'all that it is your last day to take advantage of the 10% off  discount code  FR24SXN.  Remember, this can even be used in addition to the 40% off sale they are already offering on some items!  Get some.

Well, it's official.  Patrick and I finished our first month of Insanity yesterday.  This week, we have a "rest week".  We still do workouts, but they are recovery ones.  Then next month we hit it hard.

Through our time with Shaun T, we have picked up some of our favorite sayings of his.  If you are not familiar with the program, you might not get it, but if you are, you'll LOL.  For real.

"Oooooooo . . . Shaun T startin' to sweeeeeeeeat!"

*when trying to show us how to properly do Ski Jumps--straight forward without twisting your body* "This is nooo!"

"How good does that feel that hipflexor streeeeeeeeeech???"

*in a musical tone during a slower workout* "keep pushIN!"

"Come on y'all!  LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!"

"This is not the stretch!"

"We're not tap dancing people!"

At any rate, I am both very excited and very nervous for our next Insanity venture.  So far, I haven't lost a pound, but I've definitely gained muscle and the ability to work out harder.  Keep pushin!

Share the Covers--Take On Me

Since last week's Share the Covers was a little darker, I'm lightening the mood today with a new rendition of a classic 80's song.

In other news, I tried to curl my hair.  And until it stormed half way through the day, it actually held up to my delight.

I was going for an 80's-ish nautical look with a punk/ska-ish twist to go with the song o' the day.  But apparently I looked very pirate-esque because Patrick held no bars making pirate comments this morning.

Also, I think that I have created a monster.  In my daughter.  This will require some backtracking.  So every Friday night in the summer, my kids and I have movie night.

And every Friday night, no matter the weather or season, they require hot cocoa.  Well, we ran out of the packaged stuff and my daughter was not havin' it.

Luckily, I had seen a recipe for some hot cocoa using only milk and Nutella--both of which I had.  So we made some and it was gooood.

Here's where the monster explanation comes in--unbeknownst to me, Brielle had never had Nutella before.  Let me just say that the moment her tongue hit the spoon, she was hooked.

And I don't mean hooked like in an "wow, I liked that" sort of way.  I mean hooked, addicted like crack to Nutella.

She spent the rest of the weekend sneaking fingers full of Nutella from the cabinet and begging me to give her more.

Ultimately I had to find a recipe to use the rest of the Nutella just to keep her occupied.  We made Nutella cupcakes.  They were good.  And hopefully enough to hold her over for a while . . .

For Those About to Rock

MusicPlaylist

I call this place that I am taking my pictures the Sandlot.  It is this old abandoned makeshift baseball field a few blocks from my house.  It is old, scraggly and just neglected as all hell.

My weekend has been really laid back.  Which is good after having such a busy week last week and anticipating another one this week.  Which is why I am wearing fashionable scrubs today.

And I got an extra minute to try this hairstyle again and I finally got it right!  Even though I stand by the fact that it would look way better if I straightened my hair, but I was way too lazy to do that today.

You know what I realized this weekend?  Well, I'd known it before, but it really came to me yesterday.  Kids require no cost to build their character, but what they do require is priceless and that is time.  Your time.

Yes, they need food, water, shelter, clothing, etc. to actually live but to thrive as individuals, they just need some of your time and attention.

Between swim time, making hot cocoa from scratch, tickle wars and various other crafting, my kids and I got a lot of time where we were just together.

Through your time and attention, kids learn confidence, empathy, working as a team, following directions, love and the ability to make mistakes and be ok with it.

I have to take the time while I can.  Even though baseball just ended, football already starts this coming week.  Not to mention the upcoming wedding, work projects and school starting in about two weeks.

This mama is getting ready for Exhaustion 101, but I am up for the challenge.  As long as I get Nutella laden kisses from my daughter, massages from my oldest son and ear to ear grins with excitement about football from my younger son.  Of which, I got plenty of those this weekend.  So I'm good.

Marathon

MusicPlaylist

Pardon the lack of words but it's Friday . . .

And I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off at work . . .
And went straight from work to pick my kids up 45 minutes away . . .

And went 45 more minutes away to take the kids to a birthday party for my niece and nephew . . .

Where we swam.  A lot . . .

Oh and a piece of my fender fell off of my car today . . .

Oh and this happened after I tried to get into the wrong car in the grocery store parking lot.  Talk about embarrassing . . .

And to put it plainly . . . I'm pooped.  Peace out.
